Make Discipline Your Watchword, Sabina Tells Edo Queens …Says no more automatic shirts for players

Edo Queens FC General Coordinator Mrs. Sabina Chikere, has reiterated the need for Edo Queens players and officials to be fully dedicated to their works in their area of jurisdiction.
Sabina gave this charge while addressing the coach Mathew Wemimo- led team in the camp today.

She maintained that the management will not hesitate to sanction anyone found lacking in the discharge of his/her official duty, adding that Edo Queens has a brand which must be protected by all members of the team in any given situation.

“I decided to call this meeting to intimate you on our decision as a family, particularly now that the Nigeria Women Football League new premiership season is commencing next week across all the designated centers in Nigeria. So I have deemed it necessary for us to seat and discuss the way forward. You will agree with me that we took many things for granted last season and that we are not going to tolerate anymore. If you must know, it is no longer going to be business as usual we must wake up from our slumber do that which is expected of us as a team.”

“We must as a matter of fact make discipline our watchword. We are grooming women not just players because we look beyond your playing career. Definitely you will one day end the career, the next thing is for you to still be very useful beyond football. It requires discipline to be able to go to school and make mark in other spheres of life.”

“You must also respect your coaches and other officials at all times, we are going be very strict in the area of discipline, we won’t entertain players wearing tattered shirts, tored Jeans or carrying dreadlocks on their heads, Edo Queens is a brand and it is our collective responsibility to protect that brand.”

We know the calibre of coaches and players we have, we believe in them and we know that can do it. We have set targets for Edo Queens, the target and task before us is enormous, we have our eyes on the NWFL premiership title, we need the Aiteo Cup and finally a continental ticket. I know you girls have what it takes to do it, so go out there and make us proud. Also know that you would be playing against many forces, because is not everybody that likes Edo Queens, so play to the whistle always and don’t throw away chances, make use of every given opportunity that comes your way. Score early goals and protect your goals.”

“Most importantly this first away game is very crucial to us, go to Gombe and win this first game and secure that three maximum points. I will also like to tell us that there will be no more automatic shirt for any player, you must work hard to earn your Club’s shirt. No god father, no god mother it won’t be business as usual. You must fight vigorously to wear Edo Queens shirt.”

“Again as women football players, you must walk like a woman. seat like a woman, talk like a woman and eat like a woman. You must show that you are a mother to be, that is why we are grooming you to be responsible mothers at the end of your football career. We also encourage our players to go to school if you get an admission to any higher institution, we can help you work out the modalities and you will still be playing as an Edo Queens player.”

“It is also important to bring it to your notice that players will have their Jerseys with their names crest on it and after every match such a player is at liberty to give her Jersey out to any fan of her choice. But that depends on the commitment of the player. What that means is that you will only have names crest on your Jerseys if you make the team list for a particular match. You will be happy with your self if you play all matches which means that you will get all our Jerseys at the end of the season.
So I wish you all good luck and I know we will all be happy at the end to lift trophies all to the glory of God.”

Edo Queens are expected to depart Benin City tomorrow by air to Abuja enroute Gombe.
