Nigeria is playing host to three Ministers of Youth and Sports from Egypt, Algeria, and Ghana alongside 54 Presidents of Olympic Committees from African countries in Abuja this week.
The guest Ministers- Hon. Minister Mustapha Ussif – Ghana, Hon. Minister Ashraf Sobhi – Egypt, Hon. Minister Abderezak Sebgag – Algerie and Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed of Kenya are already in the country.
The 40th anniversary of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa(ANOCA) is being celebrated and hosted by Nigeria from Monday, 27th September to Thursday, 30th September, 2021.
Nigeria became the Headquarters of the African Olympic Committee in 2020 after the current Minister, Sunday Dare completed the 10-year old building and handed it over to ANOCA on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
This celebration is coordinated and organized with the supervision of Mr. Sunday Dare, the current Minister of Youth and Sports Development in Nigeria, and will witness, on one hand, a gathering of the great family of African Sports and, on the other hand, a meeting of the enlarged ANOCA Executive Committee.
The main objective of ANOCA is based on the principles of solidarity and harmony in line with the provisions of the Olympic Charter
Other guests expected to grace this gathering are members of the International Olympic Committee which will include Dr. Filemona Fortes from Cape Verde, Mme Odette Assembe of Cameroun, Mme Aicha Garad of Djibouti, Dr. Felicite Wemarika of Rwanda and host of others.
Presidents of International Sports Federations will not be left out of the event with the likes of Mr. Ricardo Fraccari of International Softball/Basball Confederation, Mr. Hassan Moustafa of International Handball Federation and Mr. Morinari Watanabe of International Federation of Gymnastics sure to attend.
