The Charlesann FC succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Danjuma Babes FC on Saturday in the 2021 Fusion Football Championship after falling behind to an early goal.
In recognition of his performance in the encounter, Charlesann FC captain James Ogbonga was handed the Haggai MVP of the match award despite his team’s loss.
Ogbonga expressed his disappointment with the result of the game but also said that the award will serve as a motivation for him to do more in future games. He told Sports247:
“It is always good to go home with the three points which is not making me feel so good today because of the loss. But winning the man of the match will encourage me to do more in the future.”
Ogbonga added that his team fought hard in the game but were unlucky to have conceded so early in the game.
“We fought hard in the game from the beginning to the end but we were unlucky to have conceded an early goal which kept us behind. I think we did great in the second half but it wasn’t meant to be for us today.
“We will try to concentrate more and try to encourage ourselves because we are still young and we are not yet at our best. We will not sit back on the defeat but rather work ahead to be better for tomorrow,” he concluded.
