Samuel Chukwueze’s Spanish Premier League team, Villarreal has parted ways with coach Javier Calleja on a mutual consent.
Calleja was sacked on Monday after series of poor performances that have seen the Yellow Submarine move closer to the relegation zone; collecting only 14 points from 15 matches played.
The 40-year-old replaced Fran Escriba in the hotseat in September 2017 and has led the club through 65 matches with a record of 25 victories, 18 draws and 22 draws.
Calleja took the Yellow Submarine to a top five finish last season but a concerning run of form this campaign has left the club languishing in 17th place in the campaign.
Villarreal have won just three of their 15 league games this season and have lost each of their last two league games, including Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at home to Celta Vigo.
Calleja has been fired as a result of the disastrous start to the season that the club have had.
The club is already working closely on a replacement and could announce one before the end of the day on Monday.
