Despite 6-1 scandalous defeat suffered against Prince Kazeem Eletu Academy in a recent friendly match played at Elegbata Sports Complex, Apogbon, Lagos Island, head coach of Varsity Academy, Segun Peter has commended his boys for playing to instruction.
Peter said he was not worried about the outcome of result but satisfied the way his boys gave a good account of themselves despite heavy loss to their opponents.
He admitted that their opponents were technically better but noted that his players would have shocked their opponents if not because they lost concentration in the second half which cost them heavy defeat at the end of match.
“We were better in the first half because my players played to instruction and got the first goal. The problem I observed was that my players allowed their opponents to get ball possession which was not good enough. I must say that we had more scoring chances in the first half but failed to convert it. However, I am satisfied with my boys performance and I need to work on their scoring abilities before their next friendly match.
In his own response, Eletu Academy coach, Idowu Oluwadamilare expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team saying that he introduced some newly recruited players to asses them. He said what he saw in the match showed that Eletu Academy has what it takes to become a formidable team among academies not only in Lagos but Nigeria at large.
Meanwhile Varsity striker, Sodiq Adekunle opened the goal account in early minute of the first half before Obasi Jude and Precious Ogunyase recorded each goal to end the half time 2-1 in favour of Eletu Academy.
Okoro Paul was a delight to watch as he scored two goals while Micheal Awelewa and Ogunyase scored one goal each to confirmed their opponent to total defeat.
