As part of efforts to improve the Judo game in Nigeria with a view to assisting athletes, coaches, and referees of the noble game, the National Open Judo Championship, and Refresher Course will come up this week in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Organized by the Nigerian Judo Federation in conjunction with Oshodi Judo Foundation, the championship, and refresher course will hold at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State between 14-18 July 2021.
A statement by the Secretary-General of the Federation, Otumala Monica indicates that the refresher course for coaches, referees, and senior judokas will hold on Wednesday, July 14, and Thursday, July 15, 2021, while the main championship, whose arrival is set for Friday, July 16, will take place on Saturday, July 17 and climaxes on Sunday, July 18, 2021.
The statement further adds that it is mandatory for all judo athletes in Nigeria to participate as performance at the event will be used to gather points for selection of the national team for the next year’s Commonwealth Games as well as the ranking of athletes for other international competitions in accordance with the global best practices and new innovations in the game across the world.
It enjoins all participants to come along with their facemasks as all directives on the Covid-19 shall be strictly followed throughout the duration of the program and the event.
