The 2020/2021 Nigeria Women Football League will start in Abuja on Tuesday, 22nd June, 2021 at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex, Abuja with the arrival, Draws, and Pre-Match meeting for the six participating clubs from across Nigeria; Kwara Ladies Fc, Kaduna Queens Fc, Gallant Queens Fc, Naija Ratels Fc, Heartland Queens and Adamawa Queens in Abuja.
The NWFL Championship League proper will start on Wednesday, June 23, with Match Day One that would see three matches played at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex.
The Match Day Two comes up on Thursday, June 24, with all the six teams playing themselves just as it was done on the first day.
There will be a Rest Day on Friday, June 25, while matches continue on Saturday, June 26 with the Match Day Three with all six teams engaged in league games.
Sunday, June 27 is Match Day Four, with the same schedule of three matches to be played at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex.
Monday, June 28 is Rest Day Two to allow the teams to recover from knocks on players and get refreshed for the final day on Tuesday, June 29 with the same number of matches but two of those games played simultaneously.
According to the General Co-ordinator of the NWFL Championship, Rt. Honorable Margaret Incheen, all arrangements have been perfected for a successful Championship League especially as it marks the end of the NWFL season.
Icheen, who is also the Vice-Chairperson of the NWFL, stated that two top teams at the end of league games will be promoted to the NWFL Premiership, while the two bottom teams will be relegated to the NWFL Nationwide.
The Benue Football Association Chairman noted that the NWFL Championship will be very tough next season with a total of 12 teams as compared with just six teams this season, as the league will be joined by two relegated NWFL Premiership clubs; returnee Dream Stars Ladies of Lagos and Ibom Angels of Uyo, as well as eight NWFL Nationwide teams that gained promotion in Ijebu Ode and Abuja.
