The 16th Edition of the Ughelli National kids cup and the 1st Edition of the U17 Interstate Cup comes to a climax today to mark the Children’s Day Celebrations at Ughelli Township Stadium.
A late goal from Igho FC was enough to clinch the title after a flick header and from a long throw evaded Goalkeeper Bathlowme before striker Chijiuka tapped into an empty net to send Igho FC bench into jubilation.
Earlier in the day, Urhobo United U13 also left it late in the game to score to win the U13 Title against FC Prophet of Udu.
A long cross from the right flank saw FC Prophet Defender head the ball unto his own hands into the corner kick but the referee was right on the spot and called for a penalty. It was a heartbreak for FC Prophet as the striker scored from the spot to make it 1-0 and win it for the boys from Ughelli.
Director of KG Sports Academy Agbor who presented the winner’s trophy to both sides moment after the final whistle commended the organizers and urged national team selectors to always send scouts around the country to fish out talents at early ages as the is the age to impact them with the football skills needed to become professionals.
