Despite losing to Bayelsa United 1-0 today in the week 17 match of the 2020/21 Nigeria National League at the Samson Siasia Stadium, players of Bendel Insurance FC of Benin have been praised by the Technical Adviser of the host team Diepreye Teibowei.
Coach Teibowei was speaking during the post-match interview with journalists at the stadium when he gave the commendation.
He noted that his side played against one of the best teams in the league.
“I am happy that we were able to hold on to the first half goal and secured the important three points. I am satisfied with the performance of my boys but Insurance gave us a very good fight. Insurance played very well this morning. It was not easy to play and finished first half under the rain yesterday and return this morning to continue”. He said.
In the same vein, Insurance chief coach Benard Ogbe in his reaction said that his boys played a good game but were just unlucky, We will continue to work hard until we get to the desired level”. He said.
Insurance were unlucky in the game many enthusiasts considered very tight as the Benin Arsenal pacy striker Ojo Tolulope and team captain Maurice Prince came close to breaking the deadlock severally but the Bayelsans resisted them.
Robert Mizo scored the only goal of the match for Bayelsa Utd in the 18th minute as both sides ended the first half playing against the tide caused by the heavy rains that eventually forced the match officials to postpone the second half yesterday.
Insurance remain on 24 points after 14 engagements, with two outstanding games to be played.
Recall that the NNL postponed indefinitely the week 16 fixture between Insurance and Abia Comets following the visiting team’s inability to enter Benin city last weekend.
The Benin Arsenals’ previous week game at Holly Arrow is yet to be concluded following fans’ trouble at Oleh and they will be playing host to Goddosky FC on Saturday evening.
