Kano Pillars will not get the automatic spot for the Confederation Cup this season as reports from NFF say “they would prefer a new representative” for the country in the competition.
Last season, Pillars got the automatic ticket for the continental tournament as winners of the 2018/2019 AITEO cup after football was abruptly stopped due to covid-19.
In a tweet from a top journalist’s handle @oganlamedia, the NFF top official said, “We will organize the Aiteo Cup for this season, we are looking at a short program with 36 teams. We need to present our second team for the #CAFCC and we are looking at a format that will end within weeks. We don’t want to send Kano Pillars.”
This means that clubs will have more games to play as the AITEO Federation Cup might be starting anytime soon.
The winner of the cup gets an automatic ticket into the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers alongside the 3rd positioned team in the NPFL.
