Delta Force on Saturday, defeated Osun United by 2 goals to nil at the Jay-Jay Okocha Stadium, Ogwashi-Uku in the week 9 encounter of the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL).
The two goals, scored by Ihezuo Emmanuel and Ajibola Joel in the first half of the highly explosive game made it 3 losses in a row for the Omoluabi Giants in the 9-week old season.
With little flashes by the two sides within the half-hour, the hosts benefitted from the wrong decision of the referee when a foul against Osun United was awarded to the hosts by the Abia State referee. Ihezuo then beat the offside trap to connect the flick by Tosin Adegbite before he slotted in for an opener in the 36th minute.
Delta Force doubled the lead 3 minutes later when an unmarked Ajibola Joel in the offside position received a pass from the right flank and shot at the onrushing Osun United goalkeeper, Nurudeen Lateef whose effort was not enough to save the ball from strolling into the net.
Coach Bright Omokaro’s decision to bring in Jabar Anifowose and Ademola Adewale to replace Abimbola Mojeed and Danladi Azeez shifted the possession to the visitor’s side who tormented Abdulsalam Mubarak and Tosin Adegbite while Ani Ozoemata saved many shots to deny Jabar Anifowose and Adewale Ademola from reducing the deficit.
The fierce free-kick by Lekan OseOlohun at the dying minute was too hard for Ani to save as he managed to push it forward while Jabar skied the rebound as the referee blew the final whistle.
As a result, Osun United remained unmoved from eleven points while Delta Force moves an inch above the relegation zone with 10 points.
While Osun United will play host to Giant Brillars of Enugu in Ilorin Township Stadium in the third home game at their adopted venue, Delta Force will welcome Nilayo to Jay-Jay Okocha Stadium, Ogwashi-Uku in the week 10 fixtures holding next weekend.
