All done and dusted, the 2021 season of the Nationwide League One has come and gone. Winners have emerged, experience has been gained, lessons learned and it’s back to the drawing board for many.
“It has been a very stressful but interesting time, having to arrive early, relating with players, coaches and officials but honestly it has been amazing and the amateur league in Nigeria is going places,” were the first words of OpeOluwa Osoba, the Secretary representative of the Ogun State FA and the assistant coordinator of the NLO Ikenne Centre.
“I’m particularly pleased with the level of organization, the dissemination of information, response to protests, discipline, and handling of various incidents that occurred. Kudos to the Chief Operating Officer, who is the brain behind all the organization,” he added.
Comparing this edition of the league to previous ones, Mr. OpeOluwa showed a preference for his mode of running the league, making mention to the cost-effectiveness for teams.
“I’ve been part of this league for years and the real stress is in executing home and away matches, due to the transportation logistics, accommodation, welfare of the athletes, and so on but putting them in one center and playing under three weeks helped to cut a lot of costs. The only thing lacking is the joy of traveling,” Mr. Osoba Said.
He finally made appreciation to the level of competition from all the teams in the league, no team pulling out, everyone challenging even when disadvantaged and claimed it’s in the record books.
