The chairman of the Ikeja divisional football league, Taiwo Rafiu Alabi has revealed the ultimate plan of the league as it aims to produce the best crop of players across the participating 24 teams in the competition.
Rafiu in an exclusive interview with sports247.ng explained that there will be a selection of the best legs in the tournament which will form two major teams as he also recalls how the journey began in time past.
“The league has a lot of rich, long history, I joined the Ikeja Football association league in 1981 from Bolus Enterprises Nigeria Limited running a football club.”
“I started with them and later started a club, United Strikers Football Club, 1992, then MSCPC 1992, Nigerite in 1985 so it has been a long time coming.”
“My board intention is to find good, talented players among the 24 clubs and pick two teams from there, train them, organize them and produce them to higher clubs like NPFL and NNL.”
“Football is all about improvement and we will be working in that direction, more on the tactical side. So after the end of this league, we will be having a break and bring the team together, discuss what we discovered in the teams, analyse and show them where they need to make the change in the next one.”
“These boys have all it takes to represent Nigeria in the future, Ikeja league have produced a lot of fantastic players to the national team, Dosu Joseph, Emmanuel Amunike, Gabriel Okolosi, Christopher Eden of late memory and many others so we intend to do more from this league this year,” he affirmed.
