Copa Lagos Beach Soccer Competition Called Off

This year’s edition of the popular beach soccer competition in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Copa Lagos has been called off.

Sports247.ng gathered that the 2018 edition of the annual beach soccer tournament at Lagos Atlantic City will not hold, due to a clash in dates with the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s team, Super Sand Eagles will hold at the continental showpiece in Egypt this month, hence the decision by Copa Lagos officials to call off their version and it will not hold as anticipated.

The managing director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu threw more light on the decision not to host the tournament this year.

He said it is due to proximity with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer Nations Cup in Egypt from December 8 to 14.

Adamu said Super Sand Eagles are an active participant at the CAF Beach Soccer event and should be allowed to concentrate on the event in Egypt, which is the African qualifier to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Adamu said: “Over the last seven years, COPA Lagos has grown from strength to strength, remaining a formidable sporting event.

“Our goal remains placing Nigeria on the map for global tourism using beach culture and lifestyle.”
