Nigeria’s Women National Team, Super Falcons, got off to a perfect start at the ongoing Gold City Tournament (Turkey) with a 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow Women on Thursday.
Following the game, Sports247 spoke with Ann Chiejene, the assistant coach of the side.
She talked about the mood in the camp after the result and how she has gotten along with the new head coach, Randy Waldrum.
“The mood is high. Everybody is happy. The girls are really raring to go. In fact, I’m surprised because of the way they behaved after the game and even before the game, so united. And I pray that the love they share continues to grow among the team.”
Chiejene describes the result against CSKA Moscow as ‘fantastic’ and a good start for the team after a long time apart.
“Fantastic. After a long while, a long lay-out. It’s been over a year now since the Super Falcons were last in camp.
“This match was like a test match despite that it’s a competition.
“To have camped together as a team again without training for so long and they are able to play together as a team and come out victorious, it’s a good start for us.”
She lauded Falcons coach Randy Waldrum, saying that he carries everybody along.
“Wow! He is like a father. He is carrying everybody along. We are so close and I just thank God for everything,” Chiejene remarked.
“For the first time we saw him he started taking us as if he has known us for past years. So I think he is a good man and we are ready to work with him,” she concluded.
The Super Falcons continue their adventure in the Tournament on Saturday when they face Uzbekistan by 5 pm CAT.
