Nigerian football has once again been thrown into a mourning mood with the sudden passing away of former Super Eagles coach Joseph Bassey Eric, famously known as Joe Erico, Thursday, few days after the passage of another ex- Nigeria international Sam Ikedi.
Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has described it as one death too many in Nigeria football. In a condolence message signed by Emmanuel Babayaro, MON, General Secretary of PFAN, the players union lamented the passage of Joe Erico.
The message reads; ” President of PFAN, Tijani Babangida, the national executives, members home and diaspora regrets the sudden passing away of legendary former Green Eagles goalkeeper and assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Joe Erico.
” Late Joe Erico was a great contributor to the development of Nigerian football, as a footballer and coach. Importantly, he was also a contributor to the successful emergence of a united players union (PFAN).
” Nigerian and indeed, African football have lost an hero. How can we forget his tactical and technical savvy, that he brought to Nigerian football with his ‘Jogo Bonito’ brand of football?
“PFAN shall work with members of his family to ensure he gets a burial worthy of a great hero of Nigerian football,” the message stated conclusively.
