The leadership of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Club Owners’ Chairmen/Team Managers Association has appealed passionately to the NWFL Premiership clubs to quickly key into the directives of the league body to have a mandatory COVID-19 re-testing of their players and officials.
The NWFL management on January 17 ordered the immediate postponement of Premiership matches by an additional one month to allow comprehensive compliance of its early directives on clubs to carry out COVID-19 re-testing on the entire players and officials in line with the authorities COVID-19 protocols on the conduct of sporting activities.
The league body had initially called off by one week the NWFL Premiership matchday 5 fixtures for the same purpose but decided for a one-month extension after it discovered varying discrepancies and irregularities in compliance level by the clubs.
The NWFL Club Owners’ chairman, Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha said the league body’s request on clubs to embark on COVID-19 re-test is inevitable and necessary if the league will go on in an atmosphere conducive for a healthy and competitive league to thrive within this uncommon era of coronavirus.
“I want to encourage all the clubs to comply with the league body’s directives to undergo COVID-19 re-tests of the entire players and officials.
“The directives may be challenging for obvious reasons but it’s in the overall interest of ourselves and the league.
“I think it’s quite good for us to continually know our COVID-19 status and another health status.
“Since this is the condition under which the league can continue I employ ourselves to do the needful within the one-month given so that we can return to the pitch to continue doing what we know how best to do it.
“I’m sure nobody will want the league to be canceled completely on account of players or officials contracting or infected by the dreaded coronavirus.
“Let’s close-rank with the league body to ensure we all enjoy a flawless and crisis-free league season,” said the NWFL Club Owners’ top shot who doubles as the General Manager of Rivers Angels.
The NWFL Premiership just witnessed week-four actions before the two-time postponements with Bayelsa Queens at the summit of the 14-team top-flight on 100% record.
