The Chief Operating Officer of the most important league in Nigeria – Nigeria National League, Mr. Emmanuel Adesanya has dismissed speculations making rounds that the second-tier league has gotten a sponsor.
Adesanya made this disclosure during a live interview session with Boluwaji Ogunmola on BCOS TV flagship Sports program, Saturday Breakfast Sports Show.
According to him, “We have not gotten a sponsor yet, but there are sponsorship interests. It is when the bids are tabled, discussed, and finalised that we can celebrate a good and agreed sponsorship”
“By the special grace of God, when we seal our sponsorship deal with whoever comes on the board and which of course, is almost done, I assure you and all Nigerians that we are going to give an account of every kobo spent. We are going to do it in a way that even the sponsors will have somebody on the committee that will monitor how the sponsorship money is being spent”, he continued.
“Let me quickly chip in this, the success of the congress in Abakaliki was made possible by Premier Lotto (Baba Ijebu) and I know Baba Ijebu being our father of the nation and a sports enthusiast will not want this partnership to fall flat. Remember what he is doing in National stadium in Lagos and that’s just a prelude of what I think Baba can do”, he concluded.
Mr. Adesanya also confirmed that all NNL Club’s have been given their shares of the FIFA Palliatives as instructed by the Nation’s Football Governing body.
The NNL Boss also hinted that there will be a compulsory Super 8 tournament at the end of the season and the first 4 Teams will be promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Over 40 clubs are expected to take part in the abridged league, billed to kick off on January 30th as agreed at the AGM held in Abakaliki on Friday.
