Ahead of his team’s Semi Final tie against Burkina Faso, Head Coach of the Nigeria U17 National team, Fatai Amoo has admitted that Lack of finishing has been there greatest undoing so far at the ongoing WAFU B tournament in Togo.
The Golden Eaglets are set to battle Burkina Faso today in the Semi Finals of the ongoing competition, for a place to not only qualify for the final of the tournament, but also qualify for the U20 AFCON Championship.
The Golden Eaglets who hasn’t won a game yet in the tournament, with defeat against Cote d’Ivoire and a draw against Ghana only managed to qualify for the Semi Finals courtesy of Cote d’Ivoire defeating Ghana in the Last group stage match to ensure that Fatai Amao’s men made it through to the last four (4) of the competition.
Speaking with Sports247 ahead of his team’s all important Semi Final Clash against Burkina Faso today, Golden Eaglet’s head Coach, Fatai Amoo has blamed lack of poor finishing on the part of his team, as he stated that it has been their greatest undoings in the competition. He also commended the young Burkina Faso team for making it to the semi finals, stating that they are a very good attacking team who plays good football and understands eachother a lot, which entails that his team needs to work harder, defend properly and take their chances if they are to pick the ticket for the U17 AFCON Championship.
“Playing Burkina Faso is another tough battle. So far so good, in their games, which I have watched, they were very good. In my own ratings, they are one of the favourite to win the competition. They have shown a lot of understanding, coershion and togetherness. If you look at the number of goals that they have scored so far, you will realize that they are a very good attacking team, which should bring out the best out of us to be able to defend well and try to take our opportunities that we might create”.
“Our greatest undoing so far is lack of finishing and not being able to take our chances. We have not been very good in finishing, as well as taking chances being created. So I think we cannot afford to do that against a very tough opponent like Burkina Faso”.
“Also, it is a game that will give us the qualification ticket (AFCON Championship). It is a game that is so important to the two teams (Nigeria and Burkina Faso) and I look forward to a very interesting game”, the experienced gaffer stated.
Winner of the Semi Final match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso will automatically qualify for the U17 AFCON Championship.
