Former Nigerian goalkeeper and current coach, Ndubuisi Egbo has made calls for local coaches to be given a fair chance with the Nigerian national team, Sports247 reports.
Egbo was last with FK Tirana of Albania where he became the first African coach to win a league title in one of Europe’s top divisions and also participate in the Champions League.
The 47-year-old was sacked by Tirana last November after a slow start to the season.
Despite that, he was awarded coach of the year and sports personality of the year in Albania for 2020.
In a lengthy interview with Punch, the ex goalkeeper put forward that more opportunities and time should be given to local coaches.
“We need to start giving our own coaches the opportunities to prove their talents and also time because we will make mistakes in the beginning and we will learn,” Egbo said.
“Just like they are giving opportunity and time to (Super Eagles coach) Gernot Rohr; after five years he has not won any major trophy and he is still there. But Emmanuel Amuneke and Sunday Oliseh were not given enough time.”
