Kenneth Omeruo: I Sacrificed To Remain At Leganes

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that he had to agree to a pay cut to remain at CD Leganes, Sports247 reports.

Leganes dropped to the Spanish second tier last season and despite being of interest to a host of other clubs, in an interview with Sports247 Omeruo agreed to a pay cut to remain with the Madrid based club.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to stay back and play in the second division. I asked if they were going to cut my salary to 50% and they said yes but I told them we might have a problem but then, again I thought about it and decided to stay.

“I have lived 2 years in Spain and this was a club that gave me an opportunity because when I was with Chelsea they always loaned me out to several clubs and I did not really have a home that time.

“So for me, it was only fair that I risk one season in the second division to try and come back at the first trial,” Omeruo said.

Leganes are currently 4th in the Segunda División table with 33 points from 19 games. Omeruo meanwhile is optimistic of his side’s chances of returning to the top flight.

“The second division is really tough but we are focused and won’t give room for any slip-ups,” he added.
