Coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma has stated that his team needed the win against Enugu Rangers, so as to help raise their morale and confidence as the new NPFL season commenced.
Stanley Eguma’s side defeated Enugu Rangers 1-0 in their opening NPFL game of the new season in Port Harcourt on Wednesday to mark their first win of the league season.
Reacting after his team’s 1-0 win, Stanley Eguma expressed delight towards his team’s hard-fought win over the flying antelopes, where he commended his players for an impressive performance against a rival side like Enugu Rangers. He also stated that his side needed the victory, so as to help boost their morale and confidence, as the campaign continues.
“It was good for us to win to raise our morale and confidence. The League has just started, Rangers came for the three (3) points, but we know it was going to be a difficult game because they are a rival team and they came here and proved that. I commend my players, they have done well. The three points are very important at least for us to start with”, he stated.
While still speaking, the experienced gaffer also said that his side would build on their victory over the flying antelopes, as they take on Abia Warriors in their next NPFL game, with the aim of getting a win and a good result in Abia.
“It’s the League and we all look for 3 points in every encounter. Going to Abia State to face Abia Warriors, is another derby, it’s going to be a tough one, but we are prepared for it, having won today, we expect to win the Abia encounter, so we expect a good result in Abia State,” he concluded.
