In continuation of its preparation for the fast-approaching NPFL 2020/2021 season, Rangers International F.C, Friday, December 11, 2020, strolled over Enugu armature side, Olicon F.C 3-1 in a pre-season friendly encounter inside Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.
Dauda Madaki opened the flood gate of goals for the ‘Flying Antelopes’ on the stroke of half time as he stabbed home from close range after the visitor’s goalkeeper spilled a thunderous shot from Nwobodo Chidiebere after many wasted opportunities.
Coach Salisu Yusuf fielded a completely different team from the one that earned a 1-0 win over Nnewi United on Thursday at the same venue and the forward liners comprising of Femi Ajayi, Shedrack Asiegbu and Arinze Ogba did all they could but failed to break down Olicon’ resistance.
Four minutes into the second stanza, Ajayi increased the tally as he expertly tucked in a neat cut-back from Nnamdi Egbujuo who dribbled his way past two markers to deliver the cross.
The armature side put up some fight-back and were rewarded on 55 minutes as a yawning gap at the back of the premiership side was exploited to breach Rangers’ backline.
Nwobodo Chidiebere had the last laugh in the game as his well-drilled shot nestled inside the opponent’ net for his first goal for the club on the stroke of full time while Egbujuo had another opportunity to have his name on the scorer’s sheet in added-on-time but shot tamely into the waiting hands of the goalkeeper after he was put through by Dauda Madaki.
Nwobodo said after the encounter, “I thank God for the victory and I believe that we can do more in future games. For the goal, it was a collective effort and we play as a team always. It can only get better.”
Rangers will next play against Aspire Academy from Anambra state which is slated to kick off by 8.00 am on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
