Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan were on Saturday, held to a goalless draw by Kwara United of Ilorin, in the last Group C game of the Prince Dapo Abiodun Pre-Season tournament ongoing in Ijebu-Ode.
The Ibadan soccer lords thus booked their place in the quarter-final of the tournament, alongside the Afonja Warriors, with both sides finishing with five points each from three matches.
The defending champions, however, emerged group leaders, courtesy of a better goal difference, having ended with a plus four-goal advantage as against Kwara United’s plus three.
The two teams matched each other grit for grit in both halves of the encounter.
The game produced few clear cut chances as goalkeepers Detan Ogundare of 3SC and ex-Super Eagles goalie, Dele Aiyenigba, in goal for Kwara United were not really tested.
Chinedu Enuademu’s powerful strike in the second half would have made the difference but the left-footed striker’s effort hit the woodwork.
The other match in the group saw Remo Stars and Nilayo FC also battling to a barren draw. Remo Stars thus ended with three points, and Nilayo ending with just a point.
While both 3SC and Kwara United have qualified for the quarter-final while Remo Stars await the result of the other groups which will determine whether they will qualify as one of the best losers.
