Ashifa Sulaimon of Kwara United has rued Emmanuel Iwu’s poor goalkeeping after he gifted Remo Stars the goal that proved to be the winner in the second game of Group B.
Second-half substitute and Ogunjobi Gold Cup top scorer, Victor Osuagwu scored the goal that broke the camel’s back with a 73rd-minute strike.
Iwu who should have dealt with Osuagwu’s low drive shot, push it into his own net to the anguish to his team’s bench.
Coach Ashifa, known as Brazil in his play days with Kwara United said in a post-match chat: “It’s a pre-season tourney and the reason why Kwara United is part of it is to use the platform to know the team’s strength and weakness.
“The loss to Remo Stars is sad as it came about a schoolboy error from Iwu and one not expected from a goalkeeper of his class. The game of football is about mistakes and one taking advantage of it, that’s what we have seen against Remo Stars.”
Stressing further, “It’s now a must win the game for Kwara United against 36 Lion if we were are progress to the semi-final.
“Unlike what we saw in the game against Remo Stars, where our attack wasn’t sharp enough; we’ll adopt another pattern of play against 36 Lion with the aim of winning and scoring more goals,” said Ashifa.
