Newly formed Abia State branch of Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria (AFFAN) has formally introduced the body to the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Emeka George Ikwuagwu with a pledge to partner the ministry in the discovery and grooming of female sports talents in the state.
Led by former national table tennis star, Lady Ifeoma Isaac, the body expressed worry over the decline in female participation and performance in sports and vowed to reverse the trend.
The former female sports stars however called on the commissioner and the entire sports authorities in the state to involve them in sporting matters especially as it relates to the female gender.
AFFAN commended the Commissioner for the marvelous job he was doing in the state which they said has boosted the image of the state
Chief Ikwuagwu in his response commended the former athletes for forming themselves into a body with a clear and noble objective.
He promised to carry them along in the programme of his ministry and challenged them to come up with ideas and proposals that will improve sports in the state.
