The Ancient City of Ibadan is set to birth a new brand of the female football team that would serve as a repository of talents for the Nigerian national teams and other advanced leagues in the world.
This was contained in a release signed by the Sports Coordinator of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigene, CCII, Coach John Kayode Ogunleye, aka Coach John Kay said the formation of a female football team in Ibadan that would serve as a pool of talents for the nation is long overdue and the CCII has set the ball rolling.
In his words: “We have technically commenced the formation of Ibadan Queens Football Club with some ready-made players who have the requisite experience from various league clubs and the screening for the new set of players is billed to commence on Monday 9th to 13th November 2020 at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, formerly known as Liberty Stadium”
The astute football administrator added that “Setting up of a Female Football team would be strictly meant for the best legs as those that would form the nucleus of the team would be the best from the best in Nigeria. Nigeria and Nigerians would surely be proud of this team once we set out”
“Recall that the Ibadan is a home of sports particularly football. This is where female football teams formed and our girls from Liberty Stadium went ahead to conquer the entire continent. Our gallantry coaches who tinkered those lads for various national teams came back with laurels and we cannot afford to lose the steam here in Ibadan” Member of Oyo State Football Association concluded.
The screening exercise is scheduled to take place at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium aka Liberty Stadium and the time is 8 am from Monday to Friday.
