The pair where instrumental, helping Genk secure their fifth league win of the season and temporarily moved up to fourth in the Belgium top-flight table.
On the back of his super-sub cameo appearance earlier this week, Cyriel Dessers was handed a start on Friday night in the encounter against K.A.S Eupen. The forward was paired with his Super Eagles teammate, Paul Onuachu in Genk’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.
The Nigerian duo both scored one goal each either side of the interval to hand Genk a convincing 4:0 win at the Luminus Arena. Onuachu opened the scoring inside five minutes, converting from the spot after the Blue-Whites won an early penalty.
Few minutes after the restart, the influential Onuachu this time, turned provider for his strike partner, Dessers, to add to the home team’s lead. Dessers was substituted in the 61st minute for Kristian Thorstvedt while Onuachu left the pitch on the 75th minute for Junya Ito.
Theo Bongonda found the back of the net in the 74th and 82nd minutes to round up the scoring for Genk who are currently unbeaten in six league matches.
Onuachu leads the goal scoring charts of the Belgium Pro League with 9 goals in 10 games while Dessers has 3 goals & 1 assists from 8 games.
