Rangers International of Enugu has been described as a huge and successful story of Ndi Igbo in Football and by extension sports in the aftermath of the Civil War. These were the assertions of the member board of Directors of the 2019 Neros Anambra FA cup champions, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okeke in an interview with Sportswriters on Saturday.
Dr. Okeke stated that the upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration of the prestigious ‘Flying Antelopes’ can be described as a story of unity in sports, proper administration, efficient management, and accountability in the sphere of Sports and an illustration for the present generation that sports can be used as a tool for social integration and source of income and career for the young, talented teeming youths of the country.
Reacting also on the anticipated forthcoming Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) board elections billed for the end of October 2020, the football administrator stated that the constituted electoral committee is made up of people who are passionate about the progress of the round leather game and are poised to do the right thing so that new breed of stakeholders will participate as well as contribute in projecting the Anambra brand of football with the hope that the Anambra style of football will become a global phenomenon.
He emphasized that although the year has been tough for most people owing to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, he remains optimistic that football will put smiles on the faces of all stakeholders now that the ban on contact sports has been lifted. Dr. Okeke posited that the round leather game will bring about investment, viewership, unity, and as well provide a platform for the players to build a career and excel in it.
