The Minister of Youths and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare addressing the media spoke on his desire to have the sports festival held in 2020.
” It is my desire to have the Sports festival this year after the green light on contact sports was given with the benchmark for gatherings/ audiences given in sporting events.
We will look at presenting a suitable programme to curtail large gatherings if approved would probably have the sports festival in batches and have an elongated duration of the games like 4 weeks instead of the traditional 2 weeks”.
He further explained that a lot of youths look forward to it as it will serve as preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and also serve as a source of income to many during the period.
Sunday Dare also acknowledged the tenacity in which the youths took in driving the attention of the government is seeking for improved relations between the youths and the police force in the recently Endsars agitation across the nation.
