Rohr: Poor League Schedule Affects Home-based Players

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has stated categorically that he cannot rely on home-based players in the national team because they are often resting while those based abroad are active.

The Franco-German gaffer asserted that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) needs to be streamlined in accordance with the European league schedule to accord domestic players opportunities of busy periods of the season at the same time with their foreign-based colleagues.

Sports247.ng reports that The Franco-German gaffer inadvertently gave the organisers, League Management Company (LMC) a task of ensuring they rearrange the fixtures’ schedule in order to accord home-based players the chance of getting Eagles’ invitations.

Rohr said: “Most of the players playing for the Super Eagles are playing regularly in their championships.

“They are playing at a high level over there (but in Nigeria) there is a problem with the organization of the championship.

“I cannot take the local players who are not playing and can’t show that they are better than the players playing in Europe.”
