Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu got another chance to show his versatile abilities with the Super Eagles, as he starred in central defence against Uganda.
In contrast with initial reports that Udinese of Italy stopper, William Troost-Ekong would have Rotherham United of England defender, Semi Ajayi play alongside him, sports247.ng reports that Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr opted for Ogu to pair the rookie stopper in central defence.
It was a return to a similar challenge Ogu confront in one of the Russia 2018 World Cup-build up matches, but the towering left-footed midfielder says he can cope under any tactical formation.
Ogu was one of the lads who retained a spot from Saturday’s game against South Africa, while those who came in differently included Villarreal of Spain attacker, Samuel Chukwueze in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The 19-year-old Chukwueze was on the bench for Saturday’s 2019 AFCON qualifier in Johannesburg against South Africa.
Chukwueze, who has scored in La Liga and Cope del Rey for The Yellow Submarine this season, got the chance to relive his Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup partnership with Victor Osimhen in Tuesday’s game.
Eagles’ line-up: Daniel Akpeyi – Jamilu Collins, Bryan Idowu, John Ogu, Semi Ajayi – Mikel Agu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi, – Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze.
