AWCON 2018: We are not here to underrate any team – Mwape

The head coach of Zambian national female team popularly known as Shepolopolo, Bruce Mwape, says his team is not in the African Women’s Cup of Nations to underrate any team.

Speaking shortly after his team thrashed two-time champions, Equatorial Guinea 5-0, Mwape said that the Shepolopolo was still work in progress with serious need for improvement.

“We are not in this competition to underrate any team nor play names but we prepare for each match as they come. We still need room for improvement.”

Meanwhile, for Racheal Kundanaji, who scored a brace in the encounter and was voted woman of the match, it is a different view.

Kundanaji, said that the Zambia of today is not the Shepolopolo of the old but a rebranded one that came to the competition like a wounded Buffalo and are ready for any team.

“The Zambia you are seeing is not the Shepolopolo of old but a more focused and rebranded Zambia that is ready to go. We came like wounded Buffalo.”

On his part, the head coach of Equatorial Guinea, coach Jeanpaul Mbila, accepted the defeat but blamed challenges involving his team and Kenya and CAF for the poor outing today.

Mbila, who scored his players 95% hinted that Equatorial Guinea had only four days to prepare for the competition.

The victory is Zambia’s first ever win in the AWCON which is currently in it 11th edition.

Zambia will next play Supper Falcons of Nigeria while South Africa will battle Equatorial Guinea.
