Kwara FA: Segilola Alaya Wins Ilorin Central Bye Election

The Kwara State Football Association on Monday, welcomes a female member on to its Executive Committee following an election at the newly commissioned Secretariat.

Alhaja Segilola Alaya, a staff of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Kwara, earns her place on the committee after receiving the most votes (15) in the first-ever election for a female candidate ahead of Chief Mrs Olaoye who got one of the 17 casted while one was declared null & void.

The election follows a proposal made by the Nigeria Football Federation to have females in decision-making positions within football and also marks an important step in FA reform process.

Mrs Segilola, a member of Female Football Interest Group (FFIG) in Nigeria, will stand as the 24th member of the FA congress composed of 23 members until today. Her mandate as approved by the Congress will be for the remaining tenure of the current board beginning immediately.

She was appointed chairman of the State FA Female football Committee last week by the Amaju Pinnick led board of the NFF during the Inauguration event held last week together with the FA Secretariat Commissioning.

Chairman of the Association, Malam Idris Musa Abdullahi described the election process led by Alh. Saliu Ojibara as free and fair with democracy fully put into practice while advising the two candidates to work closely to better female football in the state.
