FORMER FALCONS COACH, MAUREEN MADU, NOW ANAMBRA FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR

Former Super Falcons player and Assistant Coach, Maureen Madu was on Monday made an Ambassador for football and female soccer promoter by the Dr. Emeka Okeke, Caretaker Committee of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA).

The decoration of Maureen Madu was in recognition of her immense contributions to the round leather game both as a former player, coach and administrator. In his address to Sports Writers, Chairman of the ANSFA Caretaker Committee, Dr. Emeka Okeke, stated that the Committee did the needful by decorating the legendary Maureen Madu as an ambassador of football in the state so as to eulogize her for her dexterity and as well tap from her wealth of experience as a former footballer who has played at the highest level of the game both in the country and abroad.

Reacting to the development, the visibly elated former Super Falcons Assistant Coach, said that for her to be picked amongst the rest in the state shows how lucky she is and how the entire football fraternity and stakeholders appreciate her contribution to the round leather game. Madu stated that the honour bestowed on her has given her the opportunity to serve her state and raise female football. Madu emphasized that the formation of the state female football club ‘Anambra Babes’ is the right step in the right direction.

She restated her resolve to work with football stakeholders to ensure that the state get another ‘MAUREEN MADU’ and also ensure that Anambra State will in no distant time play at the highest level of female club football in the country. She thanked the Caretaker Committee for the honor bestowed on her and promised to utilize this to accentuate the course of football in the state.

The former Falcons Assistant Coach in 2019 made the list of 23 prominent Nigerian Women to be inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame, she was selected for being the First Nigerian Female Coach to manage a top club in Europe. Maureen Madu is also the first female Nigerian to make 100 appearances for Nigerian Women’s National Team.
