Two weeks ago, the draft of a report titled ‘National Sports Industrial Policy’ was presented to the Hon. Minister for Sports in Abuja.
According to reports, the document recommends the way forward for the development of the sports industry in the country through proposed new strategies, structures, and instruments listed therein.
It appears not everyone is carried away by some of the contents in the draft report, including its fundamental principles and objectives.
The views of NAPHER-SD, the body sports intellectuals in the country, on matters such as this can neither be neglected or disregarded. Already, they have, severally and individually, expressed strong reservations that require some independent interrogation.
This week on The Sports Parliament the draft policy will undergo some level of superficial scrutiny by Parliamentarians and a Special Guest from NAPHER-SD Dr. Christian Emeruwa.
The future of sports in Nigeria may hang on the strength of positions taken on this delicate matter tonight. Several questions are begging for clear answers.
This is a small but unique opportunity for the public to take a peep into the entrails of Nigerian sports development; the way it has being, the way it is, and the possible future using the new NSIP document as a compass.
