Following the pandemic break, football projects in Georgia are running again. Georgian Football Federation organised the #WePlayStrong summer camp for girls (U-15), with 60 young players from different regions of Georgia taking part in it. The project was organised under the banner of the UEFA #WePlayStrong Together.
Throughout the week-long event, members of the Georgian women’s national team organised training sessions and shared their experiences with the girls. The coaching process was headed by GFF Vice President Nika Jgarkava, who also took part in the sporting-ideological development of the participants. He addressed the core with “What does it mean to be a footballer, a girl footballer, and a girl footballer in Georgia”.
Along with the training, participants were involved in various cultural and intellectual activities. GFF representatives held various seminars, including the early history of the game and the story of women’s football. Participants also had the opportunity to watch football films and read books in the specially arranged Biblus reading corner.
The highlight of the event was the visit of former footballer and current GFF president Levan Kobiashvili, who shared stories about his career and his experiences with the participants.
Levan Kobiashvili: “I am delighted to see such a talented generation of hard-working girls for whom football is everything. This project serves precisely in developing women’s football.”
Mr. Kobiashvili, together with GFF General Secretary David Mujiri and Vice-President Alexander Iashvili, also took part in the training session and played football with the participants.
This is the second edition of the GFF summer camp in Lagodekhi. The inaugural event took place last year, after which the girls were offered free football lessons throughout the year. GFF is planning to further expand the project. Training at the existing locations will continue both in the capital and in the regions, while 10 new locations will be added across Georgia by the end of 2022.
