Blessed Stars Football Academy an Akwa Ibom based football team has just gotten verified on Facebook. The academy was supposedly founded in 2002 and commissioned by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Akpan Isemin who was governor in the third republic. The academy boast of partners and agents stretching to Europe and America.
In March 2020, it can be recalled that George Mendes was in Akwa Ibom to meet the state governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel on a proposed partnership for a football academy to be established in Eket and Onna local governments area of Akwa Ibom State. Rumors are that George Mendes alongside his partners Thiago Calisto had payed a visit to the Akwa Ibom based football team, Blessed Stars.
According to a publication by Goal.com Blessed Stars has over 400 registered players with 3 branches in different cities in Akwa Ibom. The football team is on a full-time partnership with OPO Sports Management which is owned by renowned football agent Mr. Ojo Paul Omamomo.
The verification of their Facebook page is more or less a record breaker, from analysis there is only one football team in Nigeria that is verified on social media and that is Enyimba FC. Blessed Stars is the second football team to get verified and the first football academy in Nigeria to be verified on social media.
