Nigeria Football Federation second vice president and chairman League Management Company Mallam Shehu Dikko says the country has a lot to benefit from its decision to stop last season’s Nigeria Professional Football League and declaring Lobi Stars as champion.
General consensus amongst the club owners association and representatives of the LMC unanimously crowned Lobi Stars champions with fourteen matches yet to be played which automatically chose the Makurdi side as Nigeria’s only representative in the CAF Champions League for the 2018/2019 season.
Dikko said the positives in ending the league as at when it ended is so as to enable the NPFL calendar align with Europe which will make it better organized and in the long run make the Nigeria league attractive once again.
The LMC has proposed that the 2018/2019 league season start on the 1st of December with a total of 24 teams and would be in an abridged version which has been scheduled to end in May of 2019 same time the leagues in Europe comes to an end.
Some of the other positives highlighted by the LMC boss include the issues of transfers which will now be aligned with the rest of that of the world which will ensure that NPLF clubs don’t lose their top players at the heat of the competition.
