The NWFL premiership will be returning to her original straight league format for the 2020/2021 season.
The decision was made on Tuesday during a virtual meeting between the NWFL management committee headed by Aisha Falode and the club owners.
The league management team are expected to draw out plans and calender for the new season that would be played in a straight format.
” For the first time since 2013/2014 season, we will be playing the league in a straight format. This is the ideal time to do it as the club owners keyed and endorsed the move.
We have used the past seasons I assumed leadership of the board to stabilize the league by shouldering the burdens of indemnity by the home teams and blacklisting the word “walk over” in our games and also help in minimising travelling expenses by teams which automatically necessitated the birth of the abridge league” She stated.
Falode further explained that the best gift from the board is to make sure that the teams are exposed to a more rigorous and quality league with enough matches to toughen the teams for the innagural edition of the CAF women’s Champoins league in 2021.
“It is my belief that with such a quality approach to the league for the new season, a Nigerian team should be poised to bring home the champions league trophy for women in Africa.
A quality activity filled league is the key” She stated as a matter of fact.
