Obaseki particularly disclosed that the state government will expand its real estate stock in partnership with
Mixta Nigeria, to develop a 72-hectare estate, 50-hectare of which will be for a golf course.

The governor, who made the remark at the Governor’s Cup award night at Benin Club Golf section, restated his administration’s total commitment to sports development in the state.

Other dignitaries at the event were Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki; the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu;

the Chief of Staff, Chief Taiwo Akerele, and the captain of the golf section of the Benin Club, Osagie Nehikhare.

Obaseki disclosed that golf has helped him in focusing on the ball of governance and says the evidence of good leadership is there to see.

He noted that more attention would be paid to the state’s sports sector to sustain the recent strides in various games.

The governor said: “We are partnering with the company for the Emotan Gardens on Sokponba Road.

“We want to build another estate on a 72-hectare land. About 50-hectare of the estate will be for golfing.

“When you play the game of golf, you need to focus on the ball, ignoring all forms of distractions.

“It has helped me tremendously in politics and governance. Golf is a game of life. I have learnt to take lessons from playing the game to governance.

“At the beginning of this administration, I promised that we would build 20 stadia across the state to help in youth development.

“The public can see what we have done with the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

“When we are done, that arena will be able to host sports festivals and international matches.”
