The Executive Director of Kanu Nwankwo Heart Foundation (KHF), Pastor Onyebuchi Abia has commended the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Sunday Dare for his recent charity towards the plight of families of some late and living Nigerian football heroes and legends.
Abia who who described the Minister as a ‘God-sent’ for former Nigerian footballers said, the minister’s gesture should be extended to a member of the 1985 Golden Eaglet squad, Chukwuma Nwaoha who is currently down with liver problem.
‘This new gesture by the Minister for Sports is very good one.
Infact, the man is God-sent. His decision to remember the Yekinis, Okwarajis, Sunday Eboigbes and other families is a welcome development. But please, let him remember and extend this charity to Chukwuma Nwaoha who is right now, going through pain at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia,, ” he said.
The former editor of Sportslink Newspaper and Soccerlink Magazine said Nwaoha was in a critical condition and needed financial help that would help him go through his treatment at the hospital when he met him last December.
” This Minister is trying, God will bless him. But I will beg him to also check on one of us, Nwaoha who is also in serious need of assistance,” the former Spartans FC of Owerri and Plateau Utd FC of Jos revealed.
Last December, Nigerian legend, Nwankwo Kanu took his KHF group on a visit to heart patients at the hospital in Umuahia where the team met Nwaoha on the surgeries list but the cost estimate for his treatment was more than what one man can shoulder.
Kanu then promised to bring his case to the attention of the government if only the patient’s analyzed medical report can get to him.
Nwaoha who Hails from Abia State was a key member of the Golden Eaglets team that won the first junior world cup in Chile ’85.
It would be recalled that the Minister for Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare recently embarked on a move to assist families of late ex-football players and even some living ex-football players who are undergoing horrowing economic and health conditions.
