Nigeria have not been participating well at the Olympics in the recent past editions and Handball has been said to be far from winning anything at the Olympics.
This is according to the president of the handball federation, Samuel Ojonugwa Ochecho who chatted with journalists on the WhatsApp platform, Family United by Sports, FUBS.
Ochecho said the federation has lots to do before it can compete actively at the Olympics.
“I had mentioned my plans for Olympics earlier. If we must be honest, we should be looking at the 2029 Olympics, the next two Olympics have left us behind.”
According to him, hand ball in the country has been growing in recent years with the help of sponsors.
“The best years of Nigerian hand ball are the years we had sponsors. You see how many young players are coming up in the league. Some who played in the under 15, two years ago are now featuring in the league.”
” With consistency of our league, we will keep producing younger talents who want to play at the top. Competition is now stronger, quality is getting stronger”, he added.
