Football action begins after covid19 as Nigerian gets first game

Former Nigerian under 17 forward Lanre Kehinde is now the first Nigerian footballer abroad to play professional football since the coronavirus pandemic disrupted and halted global football calendar.

The former Maccabi Tel Aviv player was in action as Incheon United were held to a goalless draw by Daegu in Saturday’s K-League encounter. The encounter was the third game in the 2020 Korean top-flight season which started on Friday after it was initially delayed because of Covid-19.

Kehinde started for the hosts in an empty Sungui Arena Park and was unable to find the back of the net before his substitution in the 81st minute.

The 26-year-old attacker is in his second campaign in the Asian country after joining Incheon United from Turkish Super Lig outfit Denizlispor in July 2019.

He managed just a goal in 14 league appearances last term which include five starts.

Following Saturday’s draw, Kehinde’s Incheon United are placed fourth in the K-League table and they visit Seongnam for their next fixture on May 17.

Kehinde’s career started in Nigeria with Dominion Hotspur. He later joined Kwara United on loan in 2011 before leaving in 2012 to join Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Tel Aviv.
