Super Eagles centre half William Troost-Ekong has said he convinced the Dutch goal machine, Dessers to agree playing for the Super eagles of Nigeria.
Dessers finished as top scorer for his club with 15 goals in the Dutch Eredevisie. He was born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother.
The 25 year old is eligible to play for Nigeria as well as the Netherlands through his parents. Troost-Ekong was live on instagram with AYSuga last Tuesday and told fans that he played a huge role in Dessers choosing to play for Nigeria as the striker asked for his opinion before agreeing to play for Nigeria.
“.i spoke with Cyril Dessers before his call up. He asked me questions about being part of the team we both spoke Dutch. It was normal for us to talk I said he should take the opportunity with both hands”
“I told him there is a tough competition in the striker role. That playing for the Super eagles is the best decision I have ever made for myself since playing football. I am really happy he decided to play for Nigeria.”
He is really looking forward to it. It’s grate now that more young talents want to play for the Super Eagles as we are one of the biggest teams in Africa ” Ekong said.
Born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, in December 2019 he decided to represent Nigeria at international level. On May 4th 2020 he was called up by Gernot Rohr as part of the players invited to take part in an African nations qualifying match against Sierra Leon.
