Former Nigerian Volleyball International, Babatunde Omisore has advised up and coming volleyball players to value their education and take advantage of the opportunities given to them at various levels of their career.
The Osun State Volleyball Association Boss said this while responding to questions as special guest on FUBF on Sunday evening.
” No doubt, education is key and I urge the younger volleyball players to take their academics serious. Players need better education, especially for their future.
” After retirement, there should be something to fall back on, you have to plan for life after volleyball, you need to be focused and understand what life is.
” Some players get so unlucky and might suffer career ending injuries, some will fail to save enough for the future, but with your certificate, you have a lot of opportunities. He said.
The Ife born Sports Administrator also advised younger players to be disciplined, ambitious and stay focused.
” Listen to your coaches and when you get to a greater height, always remember your coaches, stay in school, an educated player is able to better understand himself, the world and the game, be self disciplined and remain ambitious. He noted.
Omisore grew to become one of the best Volleyball players in the world, including winning both national and international honours. He was captain of the Nigeria National Junior team to All Africa Cup in 1986, won medals at the All African Games in 1987 and 1991 and so on.
Omisore also played professional volleyball in Italy, France and Belgium, becoming the Belgian League MVP in 1990 and 1991, won the Belgian League with Everbeur Volleyball Club, 1991.
The Osun Volleyball boss graduated from the prestigious University Of Ibadan in 1985, where he studied Human Kinetics. He also attended the University of Maryland U.S.A and also studied Law Enforcement at the Central Training Academy, U.S.A. He was recently appointed Nigeria Volleyball Federation Ambassador Diaspora Worldwide.
