It has been noted that Former Super Falcons striker, Mercy Akide Udoh left out four time African Women’s Footballer of the Year winners, Asisat Oshoala and Perpetua Nkwocha out of her all time super falcons five aside team.
The super Falcons legend revealed her picks in an Instagram live session with thenffofficial. According to her, Ann Chiejine would be in goal, Florence Omagbemi and Eberechi Opara as defenders, Nkiru Okosieme to partner Rita Nwadike in midfield, while she (Akide-Udoh) is the lone striker.
Akide-Udo represented Nigeria at three FIFA Women’s World Cups and helped the Falcons win three African Women’s Championships (now Africa Women Cup of Nations, AWCON) titles in 1998, 2000 and 2002.
Mercy Akide and Nkwocha were contemporaries, playing together for the Nigeria national team with the former winning the AWCON title five teams.
Oshoala on the other hand has won the AWCON on four occasions, and at age 25 still looks destined for more silverware with the Falcons.
The former Arsenal and Liverpool striker scored the lone goal for her current side, Barcelona in the final of the 2019 UEFA Women Champions League 4-1 loss against Lyon.
Oshoala is the second highest goalscorer in this season’s Primera Division Fermenina in Spain with 20 goals, but is Barca’s leading goal scorer in all competitions.
Akide-Udoh, who lives in the United States, is the Head coach of Regent University Women’s Soccer team.
