Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board member, Colonel Sam Ahmedu (rtd) has unfolded an elaborate build-up plan for the male national team, D’Tigers, ahead of the FIBA World Cup in China.
Having already qualified for next year’s global basketball showpiece in The Oriental Nation, Ahmedu told sports247.ng that D’Tigers will use their remaining qualification matches as build-up games.
Ahmedu expatiated that the remaining three qualifying matches for the team will serve as trial games that would be used to test a couple of players for the team that would finally make it to China.
He also disclosed that players of Nigerian decent in America’s National Basketball Association (NBA) will be invited to see if they can fit into the structure of D’Tigers as well.
“We want to try as many players as possible, including some Nigerian players in the NBA and in other countries.
“We have to prepare this team very well, because the FIBA World Cup will be very difficult; considering the quality of teams participating.”
