Former Nigerian winger, Finidi George has criticized the lack of playing style the Super Eagles have approached games with in recent times.
Noting how important a style of play is while being a guest on the NSM rebranded platform, Finidi said it is a problem for the national team.
‘the problem we have in the past is that we don’t have a formation. We don’t have a culture, where you can say this is how the team is playing, you can’t say Nigeria plays a 1-4-4-2 or a 1-4-3-3 formation, if we have a formation, it is easier to pick players that will fit into the playing style like they do in Holland and Spain’.
The Uefa Champions League winner while hinting his interest to coach the national team said if given a chance, he will imbibe a culture into the national team.
‘so if I’m given an opportunity, definitely that is what I’m going to do. We must establish a system of play, then based on the system pick players that can fit in. That is why sometimes players play well in their clubs but find it difficult with the national team because they cannot adapt to the system’.
Narrating the philosophy of the Super Eagles in 1994 where they won the AFCON and qualified the country to the World Cup for the first time, the Port Harcourt born said ‘the philosophy of the team in 1994 was about working together, trusting one another and team building and it all showed from the nation’s cup and it really helped’
Findi George won the 1994 AFCON with the national team and played twice at the World Cup in1994 and 1998.
