The Super Eagles must try to surpass the achievement of the Black Stars of Ghana at the World Cup before they can be rated number one in Africa as there is room for more improvement with the squad.
Nduka Ugbade made this known during a WhatsApp interactive session with SFCOBA 94set on Tuesday where he further said that Nigerian home based players deserved better treatment.
‘The present state of our super eagles is not bad but the only thing is that a lot of improvement is needed, beyond qualifying for the World Cup, we must match or surpass the achievement of Ghana at the World Cup which I believe that is what we should be aiming for’
‘the state is not bad, the players are playing well in their club sides but no local league player except Ezenwa makes the team which shows that our football is not developed at all, so we should engage our local players more so as to give them experience’
He further said that the lack of home based players being involved with the national team shows the local league is not developed enough.
The gaffer also advocated for the local players to be paid more like they pay in Europe so as to help them in their life after football.
‘it is time that the Nigerian league starts to pay a lot like they pay in Europe at the same time, knowing that they have no ends to what they can achieve when they finish playing, they must be paid a lot, football is time, once you are thirty, you have 50 years more to live, so they must start to pay a lot like they pay in Europe’.
Nduka Ugbade had stints in the Nigerian league with El-Kanemi Warriors and Calabar Rovers between 1992 and 1994 and also managed MFM FC in 2013.
